Introduction:

The Philippines in the past few years has not yet reach its population as what we have today. The religion Islam was reduced in  numbers when the Spaniards conquered the Philippines, and the Christianity increased. Many of the Muslim people in the Luzon and Visayas had entered the religion Christianity, while Mindanao still believed in the religion Islam

Over a hundreds of years from the hands of the Spaniards, Muslim people had fought for their own rights. For about three hundred thirty three years under the power of Spaniards, Muslim people and the religion Islam stands firm. Up until American people went to the Philippines for the reasons of educating the  Filipino people, and this brought to what they called commonwealth. Since the year 1918, they’ve tried to gather some data about the Muslim people living in the Mindanao. Unfortunately, they somehow can’t get the accurate data. The decreasing of the population of Muslim was also being understood for the fact that they don’t have adequate supply causing them to look for an alternative solution to live.

This study will get you to understand the reason why Muslim people decrease their population in the year 1918 to 1939. This also include the reasons why the government can’t get the accurate data of the population in Mindanao and the year when the Christian people migrated in Mindanao.

“The Land of Promise”, this is the another term for Mindanao. But do we know its meaning and why it is called this way? Maybe, most of the readers know the reason. Nevertheless, we do know the idea that Muslim people fought for so many years and yet for some reason, the freedom that they want to attain was not achieved. Even though they struggled so much to put it in realization, still it is not attainable. Muslim people were looking for the freedom they want, fighting for the same reason and for the same cause.

American regime had caused the Philippines to know the term education, as a part of implementing rules for the governance of this country. This involves the birth of the commonwealth in the Philippines. In the year 1918, the Muslim people had to compete with Christian Filipinos who immigrated in large numbers into Mindanao during those times. This massive resettlement was continued in the post war years on a similar scale from 1946 to early sixties, and reduced proportion during last decade. For this reason, the high annual average growth of non-Muslim had increased especially in the seven provinces were Muslim settled Sulu, Lanao del Sur, Cotabato, Lanao del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Palawan., and Zamboanga del Norte. These seven southern provinces in Mindanao were being settled by the Non-Muslim people. One of the possible reason was due to extreme economic necessity that has forced many Maguindanao farmers to sell their lands to adventurous people from Christian communities encroachments. Some of them was forced to retreat to the interior or to migrate to a few towns that have managed to remain predominantly Muslim.

In getting the accurate data, the people who survey here in Mindanao had a tough work and they can’t get the accurate information of the population of Muslim people living in the Mindanao. There were those people who estimated the numbers of the Muslim people, and one of them was Hilario M. Gomez in 1972, who gave a figure between four and five million, or ten or twelve percent in the Manifesto of the Muslim Independence Movement of May 1, 1968. They are the same with the estimation of Alunan C. Glang. This week Sunday magazine said that two million Filipinos or eight percent of the population followed the creed of Islam out of twenty four million people living here in the Philippines. Another estimated reported in 1968 by Antonio Isidro placed the number at 2 million or 5.4 percent of the population. In other words, all the same number was just an estimation of the total number of the Muslim people settling here in Mindanao. That’s why the United Nation Hand Book of Population Census Methods did not recommend questions on religious affiliation because of inexact and incomplete replies usually obtained. This are the reason why they can’t get the accurate data:

  1. Intrinsic to the subject itself.
  2. Compounded in some Muslim areas of the Philippines because of the hostility of the inhabitants to government personnel.
  3. Disturbed conditions in many Muslim sectors in 1970, census takers apparently sometimes made extrapolations based on extremely limited survey.
  4. The mobility of the Philippines Muslim population makes it hard to determine trends of grown or decrease. This true among the one of the major groups. The Tausug, a sea-oriented people, many of whom constantly migrate from coastal settlements in Sulu and other in Borneo, Maguindanao and Palawan.
  5. Some muslim groups overstate their numbers.

Despite of these difficulties, the Bureau of the Census and Statistics will probably yield the best approximation to serve a starting  point. There were six censuses have been taken in the Philippines since 1990. They found out that 96.7% of the Muslim population of the Philippines is to be found in seven of the southern provinces.

According to the censuses , the percentage of Muslims in the total population decreased from 4.29% to 4.23% between 1918 and 1939 and to 4.11% by 1948.This decreasing trends becomes more understandable with these reasons that follows.

  1. Low of standards of public health and sanitation.
  2. Because of ignorance and malnutrition that they are susceptible to disease.

Major cause death among the young

  1. Tuberculosis
  2. Malaria
  3. High percentage of mothers dies in child birth
  4. Less than half the children born reach adulthood, most dying in their first year of life.
  5. The young are permanently weakened by disease.
  6. Their resistance to the governmental policy in the early days of American Regime. This includes that over thousand died in the battle because of opposing the policy which is the ultimate integration of the Fil-Muslim into the body of an independent Philippines.

In short, most Muslim people were lack of knowledge in the medicine. There were no or small numbers of doctors or people who had knowledge on those acquired illnesses and the medication was out of it. In the American regime, Muslim people tried to fight them just like what they had done in the years of the Spaniards but they unfortunately being beaten that causes for a thousands of people to sacrifice their lives in the battle.

The Maguindanao were the largest Philippine Muslim group and they are to be found in Cotabato. The Census of 1970 gives a total of 424,577 Muslim for the province, but Dr. Robert B. Fox set the number for that year between 360,000 and 400,00. The censuses figure would require an average annual increase of 10.8% for each of the twelve years between 1948 and 1960. This would represent an annual increase more than three times as great as that of the annual increase of 3.4% for the whole Philippines during the same twelve-year. A 10.8% annual increase become less credible when it is noted that under wartime conditions between 1939 and 1948. The Maguindanao registered an average annual decrease of  .53 of one percent. Doctor Isidro and Saber graphically portray the situation precisely for the period 1948-1960, when the Maguindanao were supposedly be growing more than three times as rapidly as the rest of the Philippines.

In addition with the census that have done by the Bureau of the Census and Statistics, a comparison of average annual rates of increase for Muslims and non-Muslims in these provinces. It may give some indication of the general trend of population and perhaps a better approximation of the real number of Muslim in the Philippines today. This comparison of trends is given in Table 1 and 2.

Summary

Therefore as a conclusion, we can say that American and commonwealth regime made the Non-Muslims settle to the Mindanao which was one of the reasons why Muslim people reduced their numbers from their homeland. Gathering the accurate data of the Muslim people was very hard to take it all because of some hitches. Medications and Medical facilities are very few to their places because of lack of knowledge and very few materials that made other Muslim perished due to an illness, especially the young children. If only Muslim people were well aware about the scenario and understand the entire situation they were in, the whole thing will change. Maybe those young children who have lived and suffered might have the chance to live the life of being a child on their own.

As a part of the Muslim people living here in Mindanao, I could say that I’m proud to my ancestors because of the courage, hope and bravery they had shown to attain the victory they wanted for themselves against the Spaniards. However, I could not blame them for selling their properties just to survive.

Even though Mindanao is called as “The Land of the Promise” I could say that someday, the Muslim people in the past decades and their descendants will have the freedom that they are aiming for. From so many years of fighting and sacrificing everything for the goal they want to achieve, in God’s time, it will happen.

Hi Guys! Business is business. However, most of the time choosing the best business to let yourself get involved with is very crucial. I’ve been into some business, not many but few of them, in order to gain some experience as well to gain something. I’ve tried other networking business which you can see the good side of it, but sooner did I find out that: “Ah, it’s so expensive. My clients couldn’t afford the product itself”. There are those brand where you sell their products at higher rate which even you could not afford it. I usually brought myself in this kind of situation, where in, I am registering myself to a certain brand and then later on, I would realize: “OMG! I can’t have enough money to buy some of its product as to test it.” Usually, some clients would easily ask: “Is this product of yours really works or not?” Somehow, you as a seller, will be questioning yourself either the product you are selling is compatible with the need of your customer or not, since it’s not the typically product that you will see in some commercial ads. This become worsen if you don’t really know the product itself, and even didn’t test it as to try it. That’s the most dangerous one. Excuse me, if I am becoming anti-something with the other brand, but let’s face it; too expensive products will make your target clients to doubt either she/he is going to buy your products or not. Due to crisis today, one can expect that most of the people go in a practical thing that they can use in their daily living, and most convenient to themselves. Even I do, as much as I am concern, I would prefer something practical that I can buy for my money. I am already through with trying other networking that would only cause my pocket in a 0 balance state and sometimes it even goes down to negative, which is a bad sign in business.

Last few days ago, I browse into some businesses that would perfectly suite my current situation. I am working in my hometown, as well as managing our mini store. I was thinking that if only I could find a certain business that could relate with our sari-sari store, then it would be best. So far, I look into some of business yet nothing really matches with the wants I wanted. Most of them is not practical, and even hard enough to sell. Most probably it would cause our store to go down if I choose some of those products and networking online without second thoughts. From this experience, I do realize that diving into a business should be handled very carefully as to protect your investment. As my father always says, money is not something you will just pick up on the road and use, but it is something to be earned through your own effort, skill and ability. Licensure Examination Experience

There were articles I had written the last few months ago about the story how I ended myself in pursuing education as one of my interest. Now, I’ve experienced so many things along with it, and some of these were already in scripted in some pages of this website. So, here I am, going to tell my experience on how I go through a long series of process in order to reach the point where I need to attend the LET examination and ended up taking them.

I’ve started my review last 2014 of April, along with my friends at St. Louis Review Center. I thought of reviewing at that said center for me to recall everything that I did learned when I was in my elementary and secondary age. Being in the confinement of the office for almost 5 years, it take my basic knowledge away from this memory of mine. Replenishing those information is needed, especially now that aging process is lurking along the way. The memory itself is starting to deteriorate if it is not well trained, and reviewing is the best option to suppress the unexpected events when someone is planning to take the LET Examination. This is why I took the risk in segregating my time for this task. It take my Saturday and Sunday time to go there and review. I was pleased by the schedule because we were mixed together with those freshly graduate of some universities/colleges within Iligan City. In those time, I was hoping not to be mixed up together with the meranao students, because as far as everyone’s know, nobody know about my plan. I guess, I am one of those typical person who undergone with a secondary courses and now kind of hesitating to tell everyone else, unless they did pass the examination mentioned. For almost 4 months, I’ve been busy with my work and my schedule for review. The time was ticking so swiftly that I almost forgot my other worries. God has been so kind to us since the examination were being moved from July 27, 2014 to August 17, 2014. There might be a reason for this event to happen besides the reason from the Catholic side why the exam ended up in a cancellation. This gave us plenty of time to prepare more in the exam. Along those days, I did realized that I didn’t made a mistake in reviewing at the said center, because it did gave me time to read, relearn and experience about this situation.

Before the exam, we did had a hard time getting our grades to be completed because one of our teacher didn’t gave our grade on time. For this reason we’ve waited days before she did gave us, and the filing of the examination were more or less 6 days before its deadline. Upon receiving the information of the completed grades, I didn’t hesitate to be absent on the first day of working days to settle things ahead. I did go to Saint Michael College in order for me to complete everything to get my Transcript of Records. I went to the Dean requesting my TOR, and gave me some instruction to complete. In addition with the prescribed requirements, one of this was paying our balance at the review center as to get certificate coming from SLRC. Upon knowing, it revealed to us that SMC and SLRC were somehow connected with each other. Having no choice, we ended up paying 4,000. That afternoon of Monday, we submitted the certificate from SLRC, together with the signed permit at the registrar. Giving them those papers, we were informed that they will be giving us a message after our TOR has been made. After three or four hours, we were pleased upon telling us that it was already had been finished.

Three days after its completion my friends and I have decided to go at the PRC office to file our papers for the Licensure Examination. We did bring the following requirements:

  1. Original and photocopies of Transcript of Records with Special Order and Date of Graduation, with scanned pictures and with remarks “FOR BOARD EXAMINATION PURPOSE ONLY”. Graduates of government schools and institutions/programs accredited by recognized accredited agencies under the FAAP are exempted from SO. Graduates of New Schools/Degree Programs must submit School Recognition and/or Permit to operate.
  2. Original and photocopy of NSO-issued Birth Certificate (if NSO copy is not clear, bring copy from the Local Civil Registrar)
  3. For married females, original and photocopies of NSO-issued Marriage Contract (if NSO copy is not clear, bring copy from Local Civil Registrar)
  4. Two (2) passport size colored with white background and complete name tag.
  5. Current Community Tax Certificate (Cedula)
  6. Other specific requirements are required by the Commission or the Professional Regulatory Board.

We did get there early at around 6 in the morning and hoping to be the first in line. However, arriving there after 2 hours of travelling, there were so many people in lined. I ended up getting 2k plus as a number. We’ve waited outside for one hour to be called. At that day many people were at PRC, some of them were renewing their license and many of the people were filing for the LET EXAM, just like us. We did get through with another line, as we get nearer to the front desk who would check our papers, we assured that our requirements were not lacking. As I was being entertained that moment, I was praying that everything about my documents were all complete. It didn’t take us much time for that clearing and all three of us were finished after paying a full amount of 900. The cashier told us that the NOA and the receipts will be given to us a week before the examination. We left a relief, and relaxed from the travel and the stress from filing our documents with a nice window shopping at Limketkai Shopping Center.

More than 30 days before the examination, all of us were tensed for the exam. We continued our review during Saturday and Sunday. Whereas the days were fast ticking, I thought of having a self-review after office. Someone did advised me to review because it’s not a 100 percent that everything in the review will come up. Days after days after days, I continued the self-review. I know that I didn’t totally focus, but I do know that I did review as much as my interest arises. I believe that forcing yourself too much will do no good. There were so many things playing along inside my mind along the way. I did tried to counter those negative thoughts that encircling my mind, by thinking of doing the best as I can to motivate myself. I did set up from these brain of mine that I need to pass the exam as to not waste my time from studying for 6 months plus 3 or 4 months of review. I already used up my time and energy doing this things along the way. As the days passed, there encountered changes happen, and one of this were my office schedule. I was assigned at Marawi Service Desk by my own agency, and then later on had an office scheduled of Sunday to Thursday, which caused me to decide to move my review from Saturday-Sunday to Friday-Saturday, as I’ve asked permission to Sir Ken about my plan, he told me that it’s too late for me to do this since the exam was getting nearer. For this reason, I don’t have the choice but to review only on Saturday, and excuse myself during Sunday.

Seventeen days before the examination, I’ve decided to go to Cagayan de Oro to get my NOA together with my friends NOA. Since I was there, I already reserved for a hotel for us to stay in. I went to Will Shire HOTEL to settle for a reservation, but unfortunately they were already full on those dates I did mentioned. I was left with no choice and make a reservation at AMAREA HOTEL which is fortunately did accommodate us for the reservation on those two dates I did prefer. I paid 795 for a one day reservations, and the next day as per mentioned will be paid on the exact date after Friday.

The hours were ticking and the days were changing. As I crossed those days from my calendar before August 17, I did feel tensed each day. When the day arrived, it was August 15, 2014, me and my friend went ahead in order to catch Friday prayer at CDO. We’ve stayed there for two days, while two of my friends had a rigorous flash back of all the review we did back then. As for me, I choose to relax. We all did aside from reviewing were window shopping, buy foods, and more important one is sleeping. We did all this just to relax from our wary minds. Before the exam, I and my friend went to our designated room as to know where our room is before the examination. The PRC already written the things to be needed before the exam.

We didn’t noticed that the day was up. We wake up ourselves at around 3:30 in the morning; review a little bit, eat our breakfast, take a bathe and prepare our things. I was the one who got out since I was assigned at BULUA NATIONAL HIGHSCHOOL which was far from the center. I was so thankful that when I got out at the hotel, a taxi was already have been there, and asked him to get me at the school I’ve been assigned to. Upon arriving, there were so many people in waiting to open the gate. I’ve seen one of my acquaintance, who was familiar to me, but never knew her name. She questioned me while we were both waiting, but it was so fortunate that a friend of mine was there, calling for me. I was relief when she does that because that girl I meet were starting to ask about my workplace, which I don’t want to be much open about it when I am in different situation. We talked with Ms Faida together with her friend about so many things in regard with the LET exams. While waiting there for almost 45 minutes, the door opened and each of us went to our designated room were assigned to. I was amazed the first day I saw my room assignment since all the numbers in seeing were all in 17. Date was August 17, my room was 17, seat number 17 and my name was written on page 17. What a coincidence, I say!

The examination went well after hours of taking them. I could say, I did well on the General and Professional Education but the Specialization were kind of a nose bleed. From the 2,500 test questions we did take at the review center for this specialization area, I ended up only three question similar from our review and everything I did used was stock knowledge. As I review my test paper for second time around that day, I was confident that I did my best, and the only thing left for me is to hope for a positive result for the examination. The Island Born of Fire

Camiguin (Tagalog pronunciation: [kamiˈɡin], (Cebuano: Probinsya sa Camiguin, Tagalog: Lalawigan ng Camiguin) is an island province of the Philippines located in the Bohol Sea, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) off the northern coast of Mindanao. It is politically part of the Northern Mindanao Region of the country and formerly a part of Misamis Oriental province. Camiguin is the second-smallest in the country both in population and land area after Batanes. Mambajao is the capital of the province and its largest municipality both in area and population.

Geography

The province consists primarily of Camiguin Island, as well as a few other surrounding minor islets including:

   White Island, about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) west of the town of Mambajao

   Mantigue Island, about 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) south of Mambajao.

Camiguin Island is a pearl-shaped island with an area of approximately 238 km2 (92 sq mi). The island measures about 23 kilometres (14 mi) at its longest and 14.5 kilometres (9.0 mi) at its widest breadth. The island is mountainous with the highest elevation reaching over 5,000 ft (1,500 m). It is encircled by a national road with a total length of about 64 kilometres (40 mi). As of the August 1, 2007 census, the province has a 5th class income classification with a population of 81,293.

Etymology

The name Camiguin is derived from the native word “Kamagong”, a species of the ebony tree that thrives near Lake Mainit in the province of Surigao del Norte, the region from which the earlier inhabitants of the islands, the Manobos, came. Kinamigin, the local language of Camiguin, is closely related to the Manobo language.

An earlier Spanish geography book writes the island as “Camiguing”. There is reason to suppose the Spaniards dropped the final g.

Spanish Colonial Era

Old Spanish documents indicate that the renowned explorers Ferdinand Magellan and Miguel López de Legazpi landed in Camiguin in 1521 and 1565, respectively. The first Spanish settlement was established in 1598 in what is now Guinsiliban. Guinsiliban which comes from the old Kinamiguin word “Ginsil-ipan” which means “to look out for pirates from a watchtower” has an old Spanish watchtower where the Camiguinons kept watch for Moro pirates.

The first major Spanish settlement established in 1679 was called Katagman or Katadman (known as Catarman). The settlement grew and prospered but was destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Vulcan in 1871. The former location is what is now Barangay Bonbon of Catarman.

Sagay, located south of Catarman, was formally established as a town in 1848. The word Sagay is derived from the name of poisonous fruit tree that grow in the area. Mambajao became a town in 1855. The name was coined from the Visayan terms “mamahaw”, meaning to usher breakfast, and “bajao”, which is leftover boiled rice. In the early 1900s, Mambajao prospered to become the busiest port in Northern Mindanao. Mahinog was established as a municipality in 1860. The name Mahinog comes from a Visaya word meaning “to ripen” or “to become ripe”. Although Guinsiliban was the oldest settlement in the island, it was only in 1950 when it became a municipality. Mahinog was formerly governed by Mambajao while Guinsiliban was formally governed from Sagay.

American colonial era

In 1901, in the middle of the Philippine-American War, American soldiers landed in Camiguin to assume political control over the island. A group of Camiguinons, armed with bolos and spears, led by Valero Camaro, fought them in a short battle in Catarman. Valero Camaro was killed by a bullet on the forehead and became one of the Camiguin patriots of the early independence movement.

In 1903, the first public school in Camiguin was built in Mambajao and in 1904 the first public water system was installed.

World War II

On June 18, 1942, the Japanese Imperial Army landed in Camiguin and set up a government in Mambajao. They gutted central Mambajao in reprisal to guerrilla activities in the area. The remains of some of these buildings still exist today.

Independence

On July 4, 1946, the Philippines gained independence from the US. Camiguin was then part of Misamis Oriental. In 1958, it became a sub-province.[10] and was made into a separate province on June 18, 1966, and formally inaugurated in 1968.

These are some information in relation to Camiguin, but as to my own opinion as an observer of this place is that, this place seems like a paradise to me. You will see different attractions and you will be amazed with all the different kinds of water bodies, from hot spring to cold spring, and even a lot more. I did have an adventure at the said place last 2012 with my co-officemates. I thought it was just an ordinary place but to my surprise it wasn’t. I could recommend that if you are a person who really love to travel and explore new things, go in the said place. You will see so many information through net that it will be helpful to you. Characteristics and Needs

This post is based on my field study that I did conduct last three months of the year 2014. You may seem not to approve some of this idea, but please correct me if I am wrong. Most of the things contain here are based on my own opinion. I am very welcome to some ideas that you may share on this subject matter. Physical

  1. Observe their gross motor skills. How they carry themselves. How they more, walk, run, go up the stairs. Etc.
  2. Are gross movements clumsy or deliberate/smooth?
  3. How about their fine motor skills? Writing, drawing, etc.

Social

  1. Describe how they interact with teachers and other adults.
  2. Note how they also interact with peers. What do they talk about? What are their concerns?

Emotional

PERSONAL REFLECTIONS:

  1. While you were observing the learners, did you recall your own experiences when you were their age? What similarities or differences do you have with the learners you observed?
  • Yes, I did. The commonality that I saw from the learners during my time was somewhat eerie, since I can see myself in them during my younger years. I am the silent type the whole year round of my school days.

The assistant teacher from the preschooler suddenly mentioned about the first day of those kids. There were those some that wouldn’t like to go to school, teacher were complied to do something for them to go to school at those crucial time. This typical feeling was something that I did feel back then as well when I started going to school. Afraid of the new things and changes, and don’t want to be away from their parents. Yet somehow, as preschoolers get too used in schooling that feeling were slowly fading. During my elementary days, I like playing games more than studying, and these kinds of thing were very common even with the learners I did observed. They love to get involved with their friends, play with them, and explore new things within their own hands. Furthermore, like those high school learners, I am also fun of getting involving myself in a report, but I only got the chance when we were required too, because I don’t have the guts to volunteer during those days. I like activities that are within my reach, yet the learners from that school were different in some way or another. However, the difference that I could possibly detect from this today’s learner was that, they are far more into activities, and very involved with technology now a days. They were exceeding the skills from those kids back then. They are totally enhancing that themselves are trying variety of experience that they can try on.

  1. Think of a teacher you cannot forget for the positive or negative reasons. How did she/he help you with your needs? How did it affect you?
  • There are so many teachers that change something about my perspective from how I see life. There were those certain whom I admire the most; and one of them was named Ms. Gabuyo. I forgot her whole name, but what I always remember was her last name. She was our physic teacher. She was a strict teacher who gives punishments when her students do wrong, and got low grades. She usually uses something like a meter stick as a paddle to punish someone from getting a low score. Her judgment was so strict that every one of us was complied to do the best as we can to survive her subject. During her lesson, everyone were not at ease, because most of us was afraid that she might give some oral quiz or else an examination that will comply us to discuss in front of our classmates. However, the way she does this isn’t bad at all because her subject gives an opportunity to sink some of her ideals about physic in us, and from the way she handled her class is something I admire the most. The thing that affects me was to be at my best as I can.
  1. Which is your favorite theory of development? How can this guide you as a future teacher?
  • I am not sure of what kind of theory development that is being mean on this part of the question, but for me, I find high school to be an interesting one. I did go throw with this kind of development, and as I perceive it, this something deals with the most crucial stage in one’s life as a person, because this is the stage where everything is at question. A very vulnerable one that could possibly lead the student to turn their way going to a direction that they didn’t imagine it. As far as being an educator, I want to learn more about this stage through complying myself. I want to give an input in them the goodness of life to be thankful for, and give a full meaning about life by integrating it within my lesson.
  1. What are your other significant insights on the learner’s characteristics and needs?
  • The learner’s characteristics and needs come in a variety of aspect. Learners are not all the same, based on my observation; I see different kinds of kids. There were those learners who were talkative, silent, very naughty, active, loner, happy and so many things. Different side of which help me understand more that God create human in a very unique. Each has their own unique way that makes them as an individual. Their needs also differ, each kids has their own. There are those kids who are lack of skills than the others. There are those fast and slow learners, goes as well with those learners are who are far and near sighted. Student who are well able and who are not. These are those few things that should be addressed by the curriculum maker since the students are the life blood of school. There interest and giving their needs in terms of education is their rights that must met by the educator.

THE RIGHTS OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS

Right now, I am making my fact sheet for my report this coming saturday! I was thinking of sharing some thing about this in order to remind us about the children and young persons rights. There are those moments that some grown ups forget their responsibility to their child, and for this, they need to refreshen up there mind as well. Children are the treasure of our own nation and the holder of our future. A fully awareness of their rights are needed in order for them to grow up in an convenient environment, where they can enjoy being a child and learn without presurring them.

1)      Every child is endowed with dignity and worth of human being from the moment of his conception, as generally accepted in medical parlance, and has therefore, the right to be born well.

2)      Every child has the right to a wholesome family life that will provide him with love, care and understanding, guidance and counselling, moral and material security.

3)      Every child has the right to a well-rounded development of his personality to the end that he may become a happy, useful, and active member of society.

The gifted child shall be given opportunity and encouragement to develop his special talents.

The emotionally disturbed or socially maladjusted child shall be treated with sympathy and understanding, and shall be entitled to treatment and competent care.

            The physically or mentally handicapped child shall be given the treatment, education, and care required of his particular condition.

4)      Every child has the right to a balanced diet, adequate clothing, sufficient shelter, proper medical attention, and all the basic physical requirements of a healthy and vigorous life.

5)      Every child has the right to be brought up in an atmosphere of morality and rectitude for the enrichment and the strengthening of his character.

6)      Every child has the right to an education commensurate with his abilities and to the development of his skills for the improvement of his capacity for service to himself and his fellowmen.

Children are not a burden!

7)      Every child has the right to full opportunities for safe and wholesome recreation and activities, individual as well as social, for the wholesome use of his leisure hours.

I would like to tell a story about what’s going on here in the work place I settled in. Two days ago, a news suddenly break the silence of every one else here in Iligan. It was being foretold that there will be a typhoon that will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility that will hit the country. The eye of the Typhoon will be centered at Samar and Leyte, yet some areas like the Northern Mindanao were a part of those areas that will be affected due to its diameter that reaches 600 kilometer. This typhoon is named as Yolanda, where in, it is called Haiyan in International name. So far, in accordance to the tabloids, this typhoon is considered the most powerful typhoon in the year of 2013. Currently, this typhoon was packing monster wind gusts of nearly 380 kilometres (235 miles) an hour as it approached the Philippines. The President of the Philippines announces addressed to the people of the constituent to prepare all the possible needed before this typhoon totally hits the country. The people in those affected areas were managed to be evacuated before this typhoon hits.

“Other vulnerable areas are the port cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan on the southern island of Mindanao, where flash floods induced by Tropical Storm Washi killed more than 1,000 people in December 2011.”

This only means that Iligan City is not exempted from Yolanda’s visitation. Iligan has been hit twice by a strong typhoon last 2011 and 2012 that almost killed so many people in this area. Now, that another is forthcoming on its way, upon the news break out, most of the people already secured their self and prepared all the things they needed. People already know how to deal with this and no longer think the idea of doing the Maniana Habits, which some Filipino have. They already exert efforts to do the necessary preparation as to save every ones life, as much as possible. Unlike the previous days at present Iligan seems to be in silence. All is aware, and all is prepared.

Filipino people are much attached to God, and we are most hopeful to God that this typhoon would not hit the country and not kill many people. We believe that God is not sleeping, whether one is a Muslim or a Christianity, everyone believes that God exist. This is the most powerful weapon that every individual do have and the best defence from this monstrous Typhoon.
