Most of the things contain here were based on my own opinion. I am very welcome to some ideas that you may share on this subject matter. Thank you and hope it will be a help for those people in search for the same studies.

Class Observation Guide

Read the following statements carefully before you observe.

  1. What is the lesson about?
  2. What visual aids/materials/learning resource is the teacher using?
  3. Observe and take notes on how the teacher presents/uses the learning resources.
  4. Closely observe the learner’s response to the teacher’s use of the learning resources. Listen to their verbal responses. What do their responses indicate? Do their responses show attentiveness, eagerness and understanding?

Focus on their non-verbal responses. Are they learning forward showing their interest on the lesson and the materials? Are they looking towards the direction of the teacher and the materials? Do their actions show attentiveness, eagerness and understanding?

For a couple of Sundays, I and my co-classmates did observed classes from different grade levels. It was kind enough that Ma’am Imelda Mamangconi, the Principal of AKIC-SLS was very accommodating towards our observation at their school. On this regard, I am indeed choosing the preschooler as my area of observation on this episode of FS 3 due to so many reasons.

                Every classes has their own way of Instructional Materials, and they indeed show a different kinds of IMs, but what I am amazed the most was the preschoolers’ Instructional Materials. They have this colourful class that you can almost see different colour from different areas from their classroom. If I could compare them from the higher level, theirs were the most outstanding than any other. Perhaps, this is due to their standing point as a new learner, which most of what they encounter is very new to them. Preschoolers have the most sensitive senses among the learners, and they still need a lot of things in order to understand some of their environment. In order to introduce this to them, teachers are required to show them what is attracting for the children in a more fun, colourful and innovative way.

                The class I did observed last February 16, 2014 was a senior kindergarten section Saturn. When I did enter to their classroom, I did ask a permission from the assistant teacher named Rahman Abdullah, a graduate of MSU-Main with a course of AB-Filipino. I told her that I was given consent from the principal to observe their classes, with a warm welcome, she indeed let me in inside their rooms and to my surprise I just “wow” myself from those things that were being displayed inside their room. Upon entering, everybody of them greeted me with a loud voice and an additional charming coming from the children. Below this are some pictures of Instructional materials within the class the I did gathered:

                 I’ll be enumerating some of their set Instructional Materials Inside. Let me have first the teacher, for they are a best IM for the learners. The Section that I did go to was under Ms. Norjannah K. Hadji Ali, the coordinator of the preschooler department. The teacher there was then their Arabic teacher. As she started her class, she did give out a loud and clear voice. She instructed the students to read the Arabic alphabets. All the preschoolers, obeyed as per instructed by the teacher wilfully, and as I view from the way they read, they seem to really familiarized and memorized almost all the Arabic alphabets. The teacher then gave out an activity that will ensure that the learner get the idea and learned it through instructing them to give an example of every Arabic letter that she would show to them. This answering portion was teamed up by group called: Green, Red, Yellow, and the Blue Team. To give them motivation, the teacher used the star as a way of recognizing their effort. Most of the students were really participating; some of them sometimes over do their action by giving the answer without the teacher’s permission. The way the teacher speaks was really loud and clear, which can be understood by the students well, and her projection was really good. This goes as well to the Assistant Teacher Ms. Rahma Abdullah, who gives out a very interesting friendly aura for the students, and always making herself clear.

                For those things inside the classroom, they gave out a friendly environment for the kids. The set instructional materials were very clear and colourful for the preschoolers to be more interested. There is that certain part in their classroom, where plastic boxes were in shelves. We indeed ask about this to a certain teacher about those and she mentioned that those boxes were children extra shirts and materials just in case they get their self dirty along their school days. These materials were already instructed to the parents to buy those things for their kids for the whole school year.

                Beside this boxes were a table containing some colour cups for the kids. These IMs were being used for the specific kids who like to have a different snack during their recess time. During that period, the school is providing some snacks for the kids. However, there are those kids who are very picky in relation to what they eat, so this idea were being made up in order to cater the other needs of the kids.

                After these IMs, one single computer was being set up at the back. This is used by the teacher in making their examination for the kids. All the preschoolers’ teachers were welcome to use this computer for school purposes.

                There are three tables that you can observe from this room. Two tables located at back and one table at the front. The said table located in front was table of the preschool coordinators Ms. Norjannah, and the remaining two were for the assistant teacher and a teacher.

                Next Instructional Materials to be mentioned were their activity notebooks and books. There activity notebooks can be seen in one area of the room, and this is located at the back. It can be noticed in their two coloured kinds of notebooks for every kid, an orange and the red one. Their activities books were being separated and placed in front, near the table of the teacher coordinator.

                The colour chart and letters were everywhere. They were being made creatively by the teacher for the kids to be motivated. The whole room were well ventilated and it was a light paint colour was being used inside the said classroom.

                The other IM’s that it could include in this are the table which consist of 16 tables and each table were occupied by two preschoolers. Shoe rock was also available in the said classroom. The school didn’t meet with the standard form of a classroom since they have this one single door for exit and entrance area. The black board was not your typical board for a starter, but a white board.

They are well groomed, and they use a more friendly approach when they teach kids.

  • Shoe Rock
This can teach the kids how to be more organized. Can be a destructing when it is placed inside the room. I suggest this should be placed outside the school room.
  • Chart
It can be an additional learning for the curiosity of the kids. Lack of organization. Chart should be well organized in a manner that the kids would get their attention.
  • English & Arabic Alphabets
It helps for the familiarization skills of the kids in relation to alphabets Can’t see its weakness. Visibly clear for the kids to see in a far distance.
  • Computer
This helps the kid’s examination to be readable through the use of its font, and can be used in preparing things for the kids. The computer they have should be placed in a safer area. It would be nice if the computer can also use a decoration that could blend in with the atmosphere in class.
  • Table
This gives a proper place for the teacher to work on their needs for their kids. Too much things on top of the table. The teacher is a model. Somehow, he/she has an obligation to clean her table up as a proper way of showing the kids of being an organized adult.
  • Activity Notebooks
This helps the kids to collect their portfolio in a more colourful way. Can’t see any weakness Their IMS in this was good since it helps the kids to recognize their needed activities for that certain issue.
  • Activity Books
Same with the Notebooks. This helps the kids to get the answer in a more clear view. Can’t see any weakness. This book should place together with the notebook in one place.
  • Hygiene Box
It helps to keep the cleanliness of a child. The box should always be monitored for lacking materials. The school gave out a good idea in addressing the individual needs of the kids.
  • Coloured Cups
It caters the other needs of the kids when recess takes over. The cups should be covered. Kids should be protected even in those things they are using. The school gave out an alternative supplies for the kids’ needs.
  • White Blackboard
Easier for the educator to teach the kids using them. It is kind of advance. Not be fitting for the preschoolers. The IM’s for the kids could be great if they use a board with lines.
  • Wall Paper
Gives an attraction for the kids. Too many colours It would be nice if they used a fixed colour.
  • Ventilation
It is well light up. Can’t see any weakness. For the reason that they are much closed door. They need to avail an extra light in case of brownout while the lesson is in session.

My Analysis

What do you think prompted the teacher to choose the material/learning resources that she/he used?

      In view of the fact that the teachers were dealing kids, I guess they prompted their self to use a more creative way of making their class room colourful and full of different kinds of learning chart. This is in consideration that kids love brighter things that their eyes can set on. Teachers were also being innovative in thinking other alternatives that could possibly cater the other kids’ needs on hand.

What difficulties, if any, did the teacher experience? How can this be managed?

      The assistant once told me a certain difficulties that preschool teachers can encounter and one of this is when the kids started their first day of classes. At first, they were very vulnerable, some of them would run to their parents nor would cry because of some unfamiliar faces that surrounds them. This gives a hard time for the teachers, and they are complied to sort this out through thinking how to get that fear from the kids of going out and go to school. Furthermore, when the kids goes to school some of them don’t have any idea of doing a certain basic action like how to toothbrush their teeth, what to do when they are at the comfort and so many things. This leads for the teacher to nurse them, and teach them the appropriate action that needs to be done on that certain deed.

Over-all, were the learning resources/materials used effectively? Why? Why not?

      Yes, I could say they are effective. The way I did observed the kids were very lively at their room. In relation to their portfolios and their needs, they know what to use and where to get it. Based on their Arabic lesson that day, they seem to understand and familiarize will enough about their Arabic lesson. They are very enthusiastically giving out a chorus answer which I could determine it as a sign of learned lesson on their part. They seem to be diligent enough about the things that surround them. In their Math lesson, the kids even has the ability to recognize months, and days during their lecture, and this might be thanks to their IMs of months and days that were being displayed in front of them. I wouldn’t say it isn’t effective since it is far more obvious the way the children lively cooperating with their teachers. The educator themselves really do know how to handle them, and even give some thoughts about giving them an extra tender, loving, care for the kids.

My Reflections

  1. Put yourself in the place of the teacher. What you do similarly and what would you do differently if you would teach the same lesson to the same group of students? Why?

      I would probably do the same like teaching them the appropriate manner of doing things, teach them with loud and clear voice, and be friendlier with them. I do also need to stabilize balance instructional materials inside the classroom. Nevertheless, I will probably need to address more activities that would highly need participation from everyone in the classroom.

When I was a student, I was the silent type, but as the time goes on I do realize that guts or self confidence is the most important aspect in one’s career and this thing is something that I want to cultivate from the students to be enhanced. In addition for the preschooler, if there will be a waiting time for them, I would highly recommend telling them stories as to use the time of their waiting into developing their creativity or should we easy imaginary skills at the young age.

Using a white board inside the classroom can be treated as a good way of using it as an instructional material since it is easy, clear and not messy kind thing to use. However, the only defect in this regard is that preschooler are a beginner, I guess it would be appropriate to introduce the basic, a blackboard with line. This would give them the idea about the importance of writing in an appropriate manner through making it up straight which they can reflect it on their pads.

Using imagery in learning as your instructional material is a best way to teach kids because, they like images. This kind of IM would exceed if the instructor put some colours in her output.

This is my first time to enter a preschooler classroom, and I could say it is an impressive one since most of the kids’ needs were already being set up in there.

OBSERVATION GUIDE:

  1. Observe the class to see the differences in abilities of the learners?
  2. Try to identify the students who seem to be performing well and those that seem to be behind.
  3. Validate your observations by asking the teacher about the background (family, socio-economic, presence of some learning disability) of the students.
  4. Observe the behaviour of both high achieving and low achieving learners. Note their dispositions, pace in accomplishing tasks, interaction with teacher, and interaction with others.
  5. Observe the teacher’s method in addressing the individual learning needs of the students in his/her class.

OBSERVATION REPORT

                From our observations during the past three months at AKIC SLS, I will be choosing the Grade IV Section Molybdenum for this observation, where we conducted our Field Study last January 26, 2014 in the afternoon. The Grade VI pupils were very will behave when we entered the class. Their subject teacher for that day was Ms. Norhanifah Alikhan, who was discussing about their lesson in relations to the different agencies in the Philippines. On that duration of the discussion, most of the students were quite, and cooperating well enough to the teacher. However, there were those students who were writing assignments, others doing something and some were listening. When the teacher was asking them about a certain question, most of them would likely to answer her in chorus. There you will also observe those students who really raising their hands excitedly in answering the some question. As a whole in the class, I could say there were only few students who really were excel from the way I observed from their oral recitation which involves giving the full name of a certain department of the Philippines. I could say more or less three students who really gotten the correct answers when she gave a certain department on those three students. Some were having a hard time recalling a certain letters while they were having this oral recitation. As to validate my observations from the teacher, I couldn’t ask this certain issue for the reasons that the teacher can’t be interrupted while in the class, and lack of time for an interview. But I did observed a certain students, whose name is Bai Khadija Salivia U. Macarambon and Queen Ashaniah M. Pangandaman, who were sitting at back. One of them were far cited and having a hard time coping up from her classmates, yet due to her seat mate, she was being assisted by her through understanding their lessons especially the math problem that was given that afternoon.

                When Mam Rashida R. Rashid take over the class for her math session, there I saw enough how the students do interact in answering the math solutions. Mam Rashida was reviewing the class in preparation for this examination, at the end of her discussion, she then give some solution for the students to answer. There are those students, who were called upon to solve the problem in front of the class, some did well in answering this portion and some don’t. Those students who have a high achiever status were facing this assessment well enough by answering the problem in an easy and fastest manner. Those student students that don’t do well enough, they seem to be left hanging, just stand there and think. In the sense that it was a session where teacher and students interact, most of the students were very attentive and some were cooperating in answering the given question through raising their hands. The teacher were not being one sided, when a certain students didn’t answer the problem, she gives encouragement to that certain students which is very effective in increasing their level of confidence in answering the problems. The teacher was very lively, and feels the motivation coming through her. On that mentioned activities, she always let the students answer the problem in front in order to build a far more confidence in expressing and explaining their self in front.

SUMMARY OBSERVATION

      Did your observation match the information given by the teacher? Were you able to correctly identify who among the students performed well and who did not? What behaviour helped you identify them? (Volunteering to answer, responding to teacher’s directions, etc.

  • Yes, I’m very thankful that both teachers’ activities gave me the chance to identify those students who were doing well in the class, and those who do not. Through the volunteering the answer, I did saw those students who were very confidently giving out their answers, and those students who seems to be at middle zone, were I could see myself through them. We could not only base from a quiz and a test in evaluating the students, but the given situation is a good sample where one can base upon in a more clear view. We can’t only base our assessment through only this since we are talking about the performance of the students. There are those learner’s who were still shy in expressing their self’s and through the teacher’s directions and how he/she handle the class for evaluation could put up those students who are shy, and express theirselfs in another way around. There are those learner’s who excel and express their self in other way around than those students who can easily express their ideas.

      Describe the differences in ability levels of the students in the class? Is there a wide gap between the students who are performing well and those that are not?

  • Looking at their differences between the learners who were performing well and those who were not was not very far. In those students who were performing well do have confidence in them to express their ideas without thinking what their classmates might think, but those learners who were not performing well were somehow shy in expressing their ideas. I would probably guess, they were lacking a self confidence, and a practice to be more expressive. They need a motivation in order to push their selves in doing something.

      Describe the methods used by the teacher in handling the students’ differences in abilities. How did the students respond to the teacher?

  • The method that the teacher used was deductive method, were her teaching started in the rule or principle, and then examples are given to explain the rule or principle. Since Ma’am Rashida is a math teacher, she is expected to use this cause in math…you have to hand down the principle before the learner could get anything in order to solve a certain problem. Along with this is that she is using the convergent questions which require a single responses and that there is only one correct or best responses. Several of the learners were cooperating to their teacher very well, and responded in the way Ma’am Rashida conducted her class. As for those students, who aren’t doing well was given by the teacher some motivations in order to do better in the next time around.

PERSONAL REFLECTIONS

  1. Recall the time when you were in the elementary, high school or college. Call to mind the high and low achievers in your class. How did your teacher deal with differences in the abilities? Was your teacher effective?
  • Three years in my high school years, I have been in the first section. I don’t know how it was but I am indeed in that section even though I am the most quite among all of my classmates back then. Each of us has a unique personality, but in terms of those classmates who excel in advance was something I could point who where those people. Those low achievers, which I could categorize myself, do our thing in a way we could do our best. For example me, I usually do the best as I can in order not to get a zero point in any subject matter. It became my motivation not to get a zero score, as not to get embarrassed from them. Our teachers really do their best in order to apply to us the best method she/he could give. They don’t give us not too hard and not too easy subject matter. Some of our teachers were effective in a way that I could be happier in applying those thought they instil to us back then, because what I’ve become now was a part and parcel of their teaching from those years.
  1. With the principle of individual differences in mind, what methods and strategies will you remember in the future to ensure that you will be able to meet the needs of both the high and low achievers in your class.
  • The learners are the high priority of the teacher and their interest counts. If I’ll be a teacher someday, I will probably consider making a curriculum or a lesson plan that identifies the students’ interest in order for them to be knowledgeable about the subject matter. This also includes their strengths and needs when constructing a lesson plan. If everybody couldn’t totally get what was being taught to them, thinking of alternatives ways is a best thing in order to get their interest.

In a learning environment, making it modified and through attaching personalized environment in a more welcoming aura, personalized and comfortable for the student is very important in order to increase their motivation as a students. IN addition to this, one student can be much comfortable with her/his environment when she/he is together with her/his family, so in order to build that kind of feeling in them, it would be much better making learning as a family affair, by encouraging the participation of students’ families.

OBSERVATION SHEET Number 1
Principles of Learning Teaching Behaviour of the Teacher/Learning Behaviour of the Learner as Proof of the Application of the Principle of Learning.
  1. Learning is an experience which occurs inside the learner and is activated by the learner.
The teacher discussed all the topics in relation to their lesson, and the quiz that was given. Some students were very participative.
  1. Learning is the discovery of the personal meaning and relevance of ideas.
Teacher answered those test questions verbally in front of the students in order to let the student assist their answers. E.g The Students realized the importance of preparing one’s self before exam.
  1. Learning is a consequence of experience.
Assessing children in their learning and mixing different kinds of strategies is an edge. The teacher gave out a quiz based on their lesson last week, and answers them afterwards by calling some students to verify their answers.Some students were disappointed due to low scores they did receive.
  1. Learning is a cooperative and collaborative process.
The teacher was very enthusiast and alive in giving instructions to the student and even giving out an examination.

The students were drawn from the teacher’s energy and followed her instructions accordingly and even giving out their answers wilful during the question and answer portion.

  1. Learning is an evolutionary process.
The teacher’s action becomes evolutionary since she adopts multiple tasks within the one hour session. She even diligently deals with her grade 5 students with the level of their abilities and skills.
  1. Learning is sometimes a painful process.
Learners were given a certain quiz but it becomes painful for them when they didn’t prepare for it even though the instructor told them about the quiz ahead of time.The students who didn’t do well realize the consequence of not studying before the quiz.
  1. One of the richest resources for the learning is the learner himself.
The teacher let the students’ answers through asking them while assessing each other’s papers.

The students were raising their hands while the teacher was giving out the question in class.

  1. The process of learning is emotional as well as intellectual.
The teacher was starting her class through giving out a friendlier expression. The possible reason is in order to set a friendlier atmosphere while giving out a quiz for the kids, and get the tension out of the students’ shoulders.
  1. The process of problem solving and learning are highly unique and individual.
The teacher was discussing the basic angles and geometric figures by details were somehow highly unique especially in a way the teachers present her teaching. In terms of the student, some were giving their best out to answer their teacher’s question.

The Teacher let the student answers the chemical equation based on their learning the previously.
  1. Learning is the discovery of the personal meaning and relevance of ideas.
The teacher discussed previously the topic about chemistry formula, and she let the student answer some formula written in the black board. After this she let her student to explain the answer in front of their classmates.
  1. Learning is a consequence of experience.
One learner didn’t answer the assigned equation very well, letting herself to solve it again. A consequence that when you don’t understand the lesson well, one tends to come up with a wrong answer.
  1. Learning is a cooperative and collaborative process.
The learner’s were not participative, but the teacher groups them to answer the chemical formula, letting them to choose one of them to discuss their answer infront.
  1. Learning is an evolutionary process.
Most of the students do have a lot of question about the written formula, but the teacher tried to explain it further.
  1. Learning is sometimes a painful process.
One student was suddenly asked about a certain formula but came up being quite and left the question unanswered.
  1. One of the richest resources for the learning is the learner himself.
Most of the learners do well in answering the equation, giving them more confidence within their self.
  1. The process of learning is emotional as well as intellectual.
The learners’ correct answer makes them happy and build up some confidence within them
  1. The process of problem solving and learning are highly unique and individual.
Answering a complicated equation gave the learner a hard time to come up to the final answer. However, when they arrived correctly to the right answer, feeling of happiness felt.

The Teacher let the student to answer the mathematical equation, and the learner began to solve the given problem based on their understanding.
  1. Learning is the discovery of the personal meaning and relevance of ideas.
The teacher let her student solve the problem in front of the black board and make them explained the answer they presented.
  1. Learning is a consequence of experience.
Some of the learners were able to answer in front, and upon answering some aren’t well prepared and realized the consequence of being unprepared.
  1. Learning is a cooperative and collaborative process.
The learners were raising their hand, cooperatively wanting to solve the problem on their own.
  1. Learning is an evolutionary process.
The teacher exerts a lot of effort giving more motivation to her student, and does a multi tasking while the lesson was on going.
  1. Learning is sometimes a painful process.
Those learners who didn’t do very well were somehow learned the consequence, and one of this was not to be able to answer the problem in front of her fellow classmates.
  1. One of the richest resources for the learning is the learner himself.
Most of the learners were raising their hand signifying the fact that most of them do well and understand the lesson and some even explained it very well.
  1. The process of learning is emotional as well as intellectual.
As I observed, the teacher were enthusiast, and most willing to give a lesson to them making her student participative and radiate her enthusiast attitude towards her students.
  1. The process of problem solving and learning are highly unique and individual.
The learners’ solve the problem very well and well understood by them. Some learners could even teach to her seat meet that didn’t seem to understand the lesson well.

 

My Analysis

  1. What is the impact of the Resource Teacher’s observance of these principles on the teaching-learning process and on the learners?
    • To become an efficient educator you need to consider these principles in your way of teaching. It is not easy to be an educator since you cannot just do what you want in teaching children, it’s not. Many things need to be considered. If one teacher wanted to have a strong foundation in her/his own teaching and implant a very great impact to his/her students then this is the answer. One of the teachers that I did indeed observe somehow implements these principles. I could say not all but most of them. This can be signifies how her learners reacts from the way she teach, and the way learner’s enjoy her class. For the learners, skills and abilities are not one day growth; it is a step by step process. The learners don’t really have the idea about these principles, but looking at them, they are indeed very active in cooperating with their teacher. An atmosphere of ease was surrounded in whole class, where teaching can be more fun for the students as well as ease in acquiring the knowledge needed.

  1. Which learning principle was applied most?
  • As I observed, the most applied principle on that day were “learning is a consequence of experience” and “Learning is a cooperative and collaborative process”. As what I had explained from my previews statement, that most of the student were very active in participating, a very cooperative one. The teacher was also enjoying her class. In the quiz, which was given on that day, some of the student didn’t have a higher score which possibly made them realize that they need to study more.
  1. Which learning principle was applied least or not at all applied?
  • The learning principle that was applied least from all the principles was the number seven, “One of the richest resources for the learning is the learner himself”. In this situation, teacher mostly facilitates with the learning for the students and they, the students, are the one who gives some ideas about a certain topic. In relation to the class that I did observed, this thing were least used. Mostly of the class was being done by the teacher herself.
  1. Do you agree with these principles of learning? Or have you discovered that they are not always correct?
  • Yes, I do agree with these principles. A principle in a certain area of subject is a very important factor that can be used in determining a certain facts. In education, the enumerated principles can be used in studying a certain schools if they are doing what exactly supposed to be an act of teaching kids. The status of how the teachers and learners do can easily be determined. For the further advancement of a certain school, this could be a basis of studying the area of learning should be changed or need some improvements in terms of executing the subject to be tackled in every class.
  1. Lessons I have learned from my observations on the classroom application of the principles of learning.
  • The thing that I’ve learned from my observation is the fact that a teacher should be aware in using these principles in order to be an effective educator.

My Reflections

My reflections on my observations of my Resource Teacher’s observance of these principles. Did my Resource Teachers adhere to these principles?

                In the short period of time observing the teachers at AKIC- SLS, I could say that they are adhering these principles well. As seen from their students, they are really well participating and seem to enjoying their class very well. One teacher was very effective in implementing these principles as a whole since you can distinguish how she conducts her class. She can create a well balanced classroom, an environment full of energy, and made the students get motivated in participating inside the class. As an observer and as a person, you can sense in a certain situation about things that seems wrong. From that observation, and sitting in that particular class made me feel of going back from being a student. A feeling of that kind of atmosphere, were you can feel the enjoyment of learning, and being drawn by the teacher’s energy and enthusiasm; that feeling of getting those lessons inside your head without coercing your mind to learn it, that feeling of learning from the mistakes that indeed committed on that day, and thinking of doing good the next time around. This feeling that felt on that day is an experience that these typical principles were being implemented.

                The learning’s goal is to give the children what they need, and make them realize things that they could not gain outside the class with guidance of a teacher. The teachers need to present these principles if he/she wanted to make her/his students feel the essence of true learning. Not adhering with these principles will give one’s learner an incomplete learning experience on their part. The development of their thinking skills and the importance of the topic being learned will not be achieved. From the way it looks, this is the importance of these said principles. The teacher that I did observed even gave assessment on her students’ skills which it can be a help in knowing the feedback of her teaching from her students, either it’s effective or not. The learners’ interest should be in the top priority, so as an educator, we need to adopt on everything that is needed in order to fully utilize all the tools that is needed to let them experience the best of learning.

Principles of Learning in My Own Words.

  1. Learning is teaching kids with the things they aren’t well aware off and making the students interpret of the things they did understand from the lessons.
  2. Learning is knowing something that is beyond ones understanding, and the relationship of this idea to the real life of the students.
  3. Learning is something about learning ones mistake, and the making a correct decision and analysis over something.
  4. Learning is sharing of ideas through teachers, and with highly participation of the students.
  5. Learning should be multi tasking due to changes pace of time.
  6. Learning is not a punishment or discipline that the students should practiced, but the realization of getting your dream with a sacrifice for a successful life.
  7. A student should participate of sharing their ideas/opinion in a class.
  8. Teachers and Learners’ abilities can be measured up through their psychological, sociological, emotional, and intellectual aspects.
  9. Learning should involve high thinking skills in order for each student to be developed in advance regardless of their differences, and considered a certain materials based on their multiple intelligence.

Read and write a one-paragraph essay of one aspect of radical changes in Alvin Toffler’s book “Future Shock”

                Are you a past, present or future person? Which do you think are you involved in today’s time? I didn’t read all the chapters of Alvin Toffler’s book entitled Future Shock, but I did read the Chapter 3 of Part 1 “The PACE OF LIFE”. He indeed point out here the different kinds of people, not in their race, nation, religion or ideology, but he described them as the past, present and future person together with their distinct differences. The past people are those persons who are trapped with the past doing of millennia people plus still doing hunting and agricultural stuff. These people who are in the present are the ones who lived in the modern world.  The mark of the first half of the 20th century molded by mass mechanization and education. The last but not the least is the people of the future. These people can be determined by their fast pacing life. As indicated by the author, they are usually the people in a hurry, doing all their doings in a fast mode, always checking up on their watch, fixing their schedule for the day and doing multi tasking action. They could not sit there and do nothing or else they tend to be so anxious. This is the reason why some people who are in this mode of life were trying to look somewhere else or migrate to the place where they can do the life they were committed on. The time they have in their hands are too limited, and seems their life has their time frame controlled by their desire of achieving their goals for that day. This is the reason why even the kids can detect this kind of schedules since they can follow these so called durational expectancies. They follow a patterned that their parents and other people do. It becomes a natural instinct of their children who are also part of this futuristic people. The future people usually lived in an advance and industrialized country such as New York, London and Tokyo. As per observation from this country, they are far greater advance than those people in the past and present. The transience of their life is impeccable due for the reason that they don’t always stay in something forever, and move on to something that they find their life/relationship will grow, and find more exciting and colorful. Now, can we put Iliganon as the people of the future? I guess not, they are still in the present but adopting some attitudes of the futuristic people.

The Mark of Creativity

Should the creativity of students be recognized and approved in more simple projects (for example, producing photos with captions, caricatures on social issues, etc.?) Explain.

Creativity doesn’t need to be extravagant, and there are so many ways to enhance this part of oneself.  This thing can be developed starting in a simple way that a students can. Teachers have all the ability to do whatever s/he needs to in order to develop the students’ skills and creativity. But they cannot impose an assignments or project that could lead them to forcing their self doing those certain things, because this will only shows, you as a teacher being so dictator of everything they do. A teacher should remember that the students’ best interest is the main priority, for this reason they have the right to give them some choices how they wanted things to be done. Teacher needs to show that s/he values creativity in order for her/his student to be motivated as well. Doing so, they need to approve giving their students simple projects, because things start in a very simple way before they go through in a very profligate way. If the students are willfully doing this simple project and they loved it, there is that possibility that they will grow on them, and even do greater task.

Producing photos with caption, caricatures on social issue as stated in the sample question are a simple creativity that a teacher could give as an assignment or project for their children. This will focus on their visualization on how they could grab a best picture in a certain situation; they could also develop their thinking skills through deciding the best caption that they could put in the picture they did a shot on. Doing caricatures in relation to social issue might be a simple projects but I could say it is a very advance way of creativity. It let the students analyze and understand first the issue that their environment has before creating caricatures. Upon analyzing, kids helped to understand more and see what they’re environment composed to. This leads to opening their eye in the real situation of the world. Students tend to be more like of a self centered individual, but they don’t need to be someone like this forever and in order to do so they are complied to set their foot outside and let this experience be a tool in opening their mind. Being alive is not about living in the fantasy world, but realizing what is in the real world. Going back, after this analyzing issue, they can now visualize what kind of comic/caricatures they wanted to picture out, and the thing they wanted their target audiences to learn about.  This is a very delicate situation but very unique because they can be challenged to do well on giving a good impression on their art work that might lead them to do an extra effort. Plus, doing this kind of activity can cause them enjoyment or fun as well.

Students play games at home and nearby school computer cafes. How do these games differ from instructional computer games?

The differences are greatly big, though the tools used were the same. Technology change in a vast speed in a blink of a day or months, and then new gadget suddenly created. Human intelligent are getting in the next level far differ from that of the people from the previous generation. However, maybe many of us were thinking, does this technology give us some sort of negative and positive impact in each livelihood or living?

The positive side of this technology is that, it did give us to live in a more easy way. We can do a lot of things out of this technology, and even do greater things on us. What we see in our environment reflects what technology has done to the human life. Computer as one of this became an extreme factor in giving way to a massive storage of information and a greater help in communication. I guess if we are going to estimate the ratio of possibility, 9 out of 10 people already have their computer at their homes. This became one of the necessities and we could probably say became one of appliances, which is a part of the household. The kids in today’s generation can already manipulate technology, and lots of people were using this one in order to promote each ideal and share what they already have in mind. The 21st century kids are far more into this techy stuff. But too much of doing this sort of things can be harmful in some cases.

Due to the demand of this kind of gadget, computer cafes were being built or provided by those business people as a part of their income generating thing. The purpose of this was for those people to access information and does a lot of stuff that they needed for their requirements in their daily life. However, there are those cafes that provide service having more games installed in their system, and most of these cafes are located near the school. For those business minded people, building this kind of café near the school could make their income rise in a far greater sale since kids are into this thing, and they knew that this location is better without thinking the possible effect on the kids’ school standing. The School computer cafes and instructional computer games are different.

The said school computer cafes were most likely entertaining games. One very popular game that was being played online was like that of DOTA, RAGNAROK and etc. These were created for amusement for the kids. Most of them really were having fun doing this, but some gets a more harmful on their grades because instead of making an assignment, they just go to a café and do a lot of games instead. This stuff really cause a harsh part to some parents because they were thinking that their kids were doing the best of their ability to go to school, but only to find out some of their kids skipping classes just for this purpose. This is why some parents need to monitor their kids in order to know what they were doing. In the instructional computer games, though bought of them were being created as games and for amusement, this ICG was created with a twist. The twist in here is the learning that it could give to the kids. They were given in order for the kids to learn in a fun more setting. We can totally understand that people have different level of learning, and some wanted more amusing in order to awaken their interest. This instructional computer games were being built to fight the boredom of some students who lack motivation when they run out to drive them. It became helpful for the teachers since it could give them some idea that they could use in class subject.

Parents need to supervise their kids in using this technology. They could put both of these games in their computer as a way of monitoring them. If kids wanted to play games then give them time with a specific limit, and teach them as well on instructional computer games for them to shift the kids’ interest from the entertaining games to learning games.

I guess, there is no turning back now. Yesterday, I did have a choice, either to attend the wedding or continued my plan in enrolling at St. Michael’s College, and I choose the second option that morning. I guess I should take the consequence of not attending at my cousin’s wedding.

At around 9 in the morning, I went to the college I mentioned about, thinking that the enrollment would be done in a couple of minutes and guess again, I am wrong. I went first at their guidance office to ask about my form and submit my requirements. There I saw two maranao ladies who were also have the same goal as I do. They were the first entertained by the guidance counselor. As I noticed this two, I asked one of them if they were also there to enroll, and she said they are. Preparing their papers was almost done by a couple of minutes, and I didn’t think that those ladies were also from Mindanao State University until I saw a glimpse of their TOR.  One of the maranao, who wears a pink dress, and a little cute and chubby, I noticed from her Honorary Dismissal that she came from King Faisal Center,  where I did spend my four years in college.  I was going to asked her but I didn’t have the chance at that moment. Right after taking care of their papers, the counselor did made a check on my requirements and other stuff as well. I did stay there for about 5 minutes waiting for the next step. He then advised me to go to registrar in order to set my schedule, and be on the list for the Magna Carta class.  I did step outside the guidance counselor’s office following their instruction.

A couple of minutes after, I did saw these two ladies at the registrar waiting in line. I did start to talk to them since we both have the same aim of enrolling at St. Michael. The registrar let us in to meet with their head officer giving out our credential for her to enter our names into the system and make a listing of our schedules. We didn’t wait that long and received our list. We did have 6 subjects enlisted there all for Saturday class:

Some way or another I needed to pull this over since I don’t want my money go into waste. I need to invest in this regard for the reason that it might get me into somewhere near in the future.  Here in the Philippines, in order for you to become a Professional Teacher, you needed to pass the Li censure Examination for Teacher. According to sources, you can also take this exam as long as you finished the 18 units’ related subject in teaching profession as set by the PRC or Professional Regional Commission. However, recently I have been hearing about this cancellation of guidelines in the PRC’s office. Instead of 18 units as per required, they will set a new regulation on this regard, and now they require 36 units. Upon hearing about this, I was kinda frustrated but what the heck. After thinking about this for a couple of days whether to continue this or not and I finally decided to pursue it. I guess I don’t loss something but instead I gain something. If the rules of PRC is still applicable when I am done with this, I guess, this is what they call hitting two birds with one stone. I learned something, and I will have the opportunity to be part of takers soon. In sha Allah.

Continuing in our adventure at that school, I did join the two ladies in following the steps in enrolling at this College, and together with them, I went on to the Office of the Finance as our next step. Unlike our Alma mater, Mindanao State University, their school is much organized. Everything is in place. While we were waiting, I did have the chance of knowing these two girls. The one is named Asliah, who finished her college at MSU as BS Public Administration student last 2008. I guess, she is the same age as mine since I got graduated a few months before her. The other girl was named Bulit, who is my junior at King Faisal Center as BS- International Relations student last 2010. Both of them were working at a certain Non-Governmental Organization located at Marawi City named CFSI. Upon hearing this CFSI NGO, I suddenly remembered someone I know who works there and asked them about him. To my surprise they did know him. I thought “Wow, what a small world.”. We’ve talked lot of things while waiting. Somehow meeting someone in unexpected event and ask them about things which you can find an interconnection between that certain person is something amazing. If you do have that, communication goes smoothly. I did tell them not to mention me to the person whom I know from CFSI. We waited like 20 minutes in paying the down payment, which caused us 600 pesos.

Right after doing all the down payment part, we did have ourselves going to the canteen to get some ID chord and meet the personnel at DSA. We were instructed to go at their ITC to fill out a form for the ID through computers. It was our last step to be enrolled at it officially. After getting done filling out the form and getting our IDs, Asleah felt that it isn’t finish yet. We told her; that how come it didn’t finished were in fact we already pass through the final step. So, we got our self going at their dean to ask for the schedule, and it was a great thing that we did go there and asked. The Dean let us list our names and numbers to be contacted by her when the schedule is already done.

Now the enrollment is done, and everything was settled. The only thing left for me is to do my part and finish this. Hope I will not be half in this regard because this is an investment.

After I did manage to finish all the things I needed that day, I then went to a nice restaurant called “Pop Rock” to taste my favorite sprelli salad that they serve. YUMMY!
